She was supposed to lie and caw, be a nasty stupid creature. That basilisk, on the other hand, had opposable thumbs on feathered hands, walked upright, and cursed under his beak. He complained about how hard it is to close a certain tiny artifact inside the walls of a die. You understand - the bird beast was talking to himself in human language about craftsmanship. Incredible. And I was supposed to slay her on behalf of the monster hunters' guild. I thought it would be an easy job. I go in, kill the wild beast, get out. I did not sign up for murder. I cleared my throat, introduced myself. The guy was in shock, I thought he would just lie down somewhere. I explained why I was here and that I had abandoned the murderous intent, but we need to come up with some alternative solution. We tore out his eye and put it into the die. He himself created a prosthesis. I returned with the die to the guild and received a reward for eliminating the creature. I gave the die to a certain strange merchant.
