Here is what happened in Bronowice. The dragon, whose mother was killed by the villagers, hid in the thickets and remained in hiding for years. There he grew up and became a great reptile. In his heart he carried a grudge from childhood, so he set out for Bronowice, hungry for revenge. He stood on a rock by the river and frightened the washerwomen. Soon a mob gathered and shouted to the reptile – "What are you looking for here, perish, disappear." But the dragon stood unmoved. He climbed down from the rock and breathed fire, melting it into a cradle. Then he said – "This is my altar. If you want to live, you must bring me one sheep a day and kill it on this altar. I don't know where you will get it from and I don't care. You can reduce your flock or steal. You must do this or I will burn you all. And if you run out of sheep and rams, you will offer me virgins and young women on the altar. And slit their throats just like lambs." Pale fear fell on the village. For a month the dragon's requests were fulfilled, until the village messenger returned to Bronowice with Saint George. You know what happened next. It is a very well-known legend.
