Steel Book Handbook: Role-playing Game

In the Book of Steel, you will take on the role of ordinary people who, torn from their former lives, must face new threats. A former court cook will have to learn to prepare meals from forest beasts if he does not want to become their dinner. A bard abandoned to the mercy of fate will be forced to use beautiful words to avoid death at the hands of bandits. And a soldier accustomed to the clamor of battle will get the chance to taste even more blood.

The world will be brutal towards you, so you must be brutal towards it, but even here you can count on others, similar troublemakers. Your company is the only family you can afford in this ruined and hostile world. The old world will not return. Kingdoms have fallen, and life has almost died out. Everything is changing, and the only certain thing remains the cold steel in the hands of the last heroes.

Welcome to the Book of Steel, a game about heroes struggling with the nightmare of survival in a freezing world and the horrors that have crawled out of the entrails of a dead creator.

To face dangerous challenges, players will be able to use:

  • Terrifying occult arts.
  • Shamanism inspired by Siberian tales.
  • Dangerous parasites that, by attaching to the brain, provide the carrier with extraordinary properties.
  • A flexible skill system that allows them to tailor the character to their play style.

The core of the Book of Steel rules is resource management. Constant juggling of available means, while maintaining simplicity, adds additional depth to the gameplay without detaching too much from the narrative layer.

This consists of:

  • A consumable pool of cards used during tests.
  • Potential points that symbolize the hero's capabilities in a specific field.
  • Skills that deactivate under fatigue.
  • Deteriorating equipment that must be used with caution.

Additionally, in the manual you will find:

  • Rules of states that can turn into permanent flaws of the hero.
  • The possibility of creating items according to your own concept.
  • Travel rules... and a whole set of additional options that you will introduce depending on your expectations of the game.
