Call of Cthulhu Handbook: The Great Terror

Exciting two-part mini-campaign - The Great Terror is an extensive, two-part historical scenario set during the French Revolution. It can be played as a standalone mini-campaign or as additional scenarios connected to the main storyline in the monumental campaign Horror on the Orient Express.

Shadows of Myths Amid the Horror of the French Revolution
The human crowd loudly demands blood to the accompaniment of the falling blade of the guillotine…
Discover the time of battles, intrigues, and horror. A divided country where the upper class enjoys its wealth, while the poor cannot even afford bread. Where angry cries caused by the injustice of fate grow stronger until they become the spark igniting a great uprising – the united people overthrow the yoke of the old power and move towards a brighter, hopeful future. Over time, hope will be replaced by fear, and the era of the Great Terror will come to France. The guillotine will continuously demand fresh blood. In the first part, set in the year 1789, on the eve of the revolution, Investigators will descend into the Paris catacombs and also face the hardships of life at the royal court, where debauchery and corruption awaken their own demons.
The second part, set during the Great Terror, will throw Investigators into the heart of a conspiracy – a game of spies and agents searching for traitors who attempt to disrupt the new order. Amid the chaos and dangers of revolutionary Paris, a way must be found to stop the nightmare that could plunge France and all of Europe into unfathomable darkness.
Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!
The handbook contains a description of the historical framework with a wealth of helpful information, enabling the Keeper of Secrets to faithfully recreate the period of the French Revolution, as well as new professions for Investigators. Besides the two-part scenario, in the Great Terror you will also find a handful of ideas that can easily be expanded into full-fledged adventures, thereby creating an extended campaign.
Combining this mini-campaign with Horror on the Orient Express creates a captivating, dynamic “living aid for players” that throws Investigators into the whirlwind of events surrounding the main plot, while also providing them with certain new information needed in the Horror on the Orient Express campaign.
In both cases, you can also use ready-made aids:
  • six ready-made Investigator characters,
  • a complete chronology of the French Revolution,
  • beautiful color maps of Paris, Versailles, and other locations,
  • a bibliography facilitating further research and inspiration.
