I was sad, autumn was giving me a hard time with constant rain hitting the windows, the grayness of the sky, and the cold seeping through the cracks of old wooden windows. I walked around the house wrapped in a blanket, constantly holding a cup of warm tea with cinnamon and vanilla in my hands. I thought about hollowing out a pumpkin and placing it on the porch in an ironic gesture of fear, but I gave up. It quickly got dark, the candlelight illuminated the smoky twilight of the room. The time of ghosts and dreams. Evening defeated by night.

My black cat climbed onto my lap as I rocked in the armchair, and the warmth of its body wrapped me in calm. The purring filtered through the thick fibers of the blanket and spread throughout my body. I put down the book, which was a literary diary of a little-known author. Cat magic drove away evil spirits from the doorframes of our cottage and lulled me into a soothing nap. For a moment, I didn't have to worry about the shadows in my head that had wished me ill for some time. It occurred to me to take a game and go to my close friend for a session.
