Sky Watcher Wooden Table Clock with Tourbillon Model

$84.00

The theory of the Clockwork Universe favored by seventeenth-century deists stated that the Earth and the sky, as well as all their movements, are like a giant clock, whose clockmaker is God. Newton's three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation were considered sufficient to explain all kinds of phenomena using mechanical concepts. At Ugears we love mechanical concepts! And so, with a nod to Isaac Newton, we present the Sky Watcher. A table clock with a Tourbillon, a fascinating combination of a clever sky observatory and a functional table clock!

Sky Watcher Wooden Table Clock with Tourbillon Model

The theory of the Clockwork Universe favored by seventeenth-century deists stated that the Earth and the sky, as well as all their movements, are like a giant clock, whose clockmaker is God. Newton's three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation were considered sufficient to explain all kinds of phenomena using mechanical concepts. At Ugears we love mechanical concepts! And so, with a nod to Isaac Newton, we present the Sky Watcher. A table clock with a Tourbillon, a fascinating combination of a clever sky observatory and a functional table clock!

New Clock!
For years, Ugears fans around the world have been demanding that we create a functional wooden clock model. With the gravity-driven, wall-mounted Aero Clock, and now the spring-driven Tourbillon table clock, we have succeeded twice! Clocks are complex mechanisms. We bet you never thought you could build your own wooden clock that would keep accurate time! But with Ugears models, you become a creative partner in an amazing mechanical adventure. To create this amazing clock, our designers and engineers solved complex problems of friction, gearing, gear strength, twisting of the clock case, and the tourbillon axis under spring load. Now the challenge is yours to build it, bring it to life, and become a watchmaker in your own steampunk universe.
APPEARANCE
The distinctive feature of this functional and beautiful wooden table clock model is the rotating tourbillon located on top. In wristwatches and pocket watches, the tourbillon mechanism helps increase accuracy by counteracting the effects of gravity when the watch is stationary. By placing the escapement and balance in a rotating case, small timing errors caused by gravitational force are averaged out. In table and wall clocks, the tourbillon often serves a more decorative function. This is the case with the Sky Watcher clock – a table clock with a Tourbillon mechanism. Its tourbillon is styled to resemble a large observational telescope scanning the celestial sphere, like those on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Perhaps it is creating a map of the sky? Conducting infrared research? Or maybe searching for new planets or signs of intelligent life?
TOURBILLON – A SHORT HISTORY
The first tourbillon prototype was developed in 1795 by Abraham-Louis Breguet. He also managed to reduce the size of the mechanism and mount it in a pocket watch. Over a hundred years later, in 1920, Alfred Helwig developed the aesthetic "flying tourbillon," which allowed observing the mechanism by mounting it only on one side. Today, there are many variations of the tourbillon mechanism, including designs with one, two, and three axes. But what is common to all designs is that they are a daunting engineering challenge. Therefore, a watch equipped with a tourbillon will be more expensive than models without this mechanism. The idea that you can build your own tourbillon from composite wood without glue or special tools is, in a way, amazing. But amazement is exactly what our UGEARS customers expect.
MECHANISM
The Sky Watcher with Tourbillon mechanism has three axes of rotation. The first around the vertical axis of the clock, the second around the horizontal axis of the clock, and relative to the central axis of the inner sphere. The wound clock operates based on the accumulation of potential energy in a flat spring and the gradual release of this energy. When the model is fully wound, it can power the clock for about 2-3 hours. This is enough for a long observation of the hypnotizing mechanism or to provide a pleasant sound background and visual diversion during work or rest. Instead of the too commonly seen clock face with hands, we created additional curiosities by placing the time display on drums. The minute reel rotates smoothly with the progress of the tourbillon, while the hour drum measures the passage of time using a striking mechanism.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT….
The Tourbillon table clock is an exciting addition to the UGEARS catalog of modeling kits for tinkering, automata, robots, wooden puzzle boxes, and STEM Lab kits. This model is definitely not intended for beginners but will be a great challenge for more experienced modelers. When assembling your Tourbillon table clock, consider the complexity of the mechanism. Remember that to keep accurate time, your clock requires lubrication and neat, orderly assembly. Thanks to the balance, this model allows time adjustment regardless of whether the clock runs fast or slow. Of course, you can set the current time on the display by turning the drums: first minutes, then hours. The Sky Watcher clock comes with a detailed, illustrated manual in 11 languages. If you break any part during assembly, simply inform our customer service department. Spare parts are free as part of our overall customer service commitment.
SKY WATCHER – THE PERFECT CLOCK
The Sky Watcher table clock with Tourbillon from Ugears will be a beautiful, fascinating addition to any home or office. This extraordinary table clock has modest dimensions, and its tower design will not take up much space on a desk. Even in a static state, this 3D clock is a beautiful addition to the decor and will certainly become a conversation piece. It is also a great gift idea. Give this DIY clock kit as a gift to your favorite enthusiast and present them with a wonderful challenge. If you are the hobbyist, build it as a magnificent exhibit for your own fireplace or home office. You can also gift the finished Clock as a special present to a loved one, giving them a unique, handmade work of art and engineering.
The Sky Watcher Tourbillon table clock will appeal to night sky observers, star lovers, amateur astronomers, horologists, clock and watch enthusiasts, experienced modelers, 17th-century deists, fans of Isaac Newton. In short – anyone who values excellent design or tinkering challenges.
