You are a Rifter – a rift in the Mist, a gateway between reality and something old and true, yet still unfathomed.

The City of Mist is a detective role-playing game set in a dark city of ordinary people and legendary powers. Create cinematic characters and play out scenes full of action, tension, investigation, and drama. Use the abilities, resources, and even feelings of your heroes to drive cinematic scenes. Make deep transformations of your characters through difficult choices and sacrifices to find answers and fight for what truly matters.

Player's Guide

In the Player's Guide, you will find an extensive instruction on creating your Rifter and his development, as well as sample legendary powers he may possess. Choose one of seven motifs and your Mythos and discover who you really are! Additionally, the manual will introduce you to the cinematic world of the City of Mist and present the mechanics rules governing this system.

The guide contains all the rules allowing you to create and run your own story, but to utilize the full potential of the game, the Ceremony Master's Toolkit is also necessary. It contains rules for creating scenarios and investigations, instructions for running the game, as well as many other useful pieces of information for the Game Master.

What you will find in this manual:

• Chapter 1: The Whole Truth – contains information about the life of a Rifter (player character) and the process of awakening the legend within him. It also includes an introduction to the City.
• Chapter 2: Who You Are – a guide to the introductory session in which you and your group create your City of Mist campaign. It contains a complete character creation system using motif books, quick character creation options, a relationship system with the crew, sample crew motifs, and a crew motif book.
• Chapter 3: Working on the Case – explains the filmic game rules system, focusing on eight basic moves and four cinematic moves (Voiceover Monologue, Flashback, Montage, Get Pumped After the Screening), and provides many optional rules to tailor the game to your needs.
• Chapter 4: Moments of Truth – describes the nonlinear character development system characteristic of this game, which makes your character discover the secret of their Mythos and go through dramatic moments of transformation, such as losing a loved one or gaining new powers.

Ceremony Master's Toolkit

This manual contains what you need to create scenarios and run the City of Mist game. Here you will find, among other things: a description of the City and the hidden forces operating within it, rules for the MC, system mechanics, guides on noir narration and writing investigations, dozens of ready-to-use locations, enemies, and villain operations, as well as a ready-to-run sample case Playing with Death.

What you will find in this manual:

• Chapter 1: What They Say Around Town – describes the four main districts of the City along with sample locations and local Rifters, as well as additional districts and locations on the outskirts of the city.
• Chapter 2: Behind the Scenes – a detailed breakdown of MC roles and a step-by-step guide on how to run sessions, containing many tools to help make the game more cinematic, as well as an in-depth introduction to creating your own cases and designing campaigns based on the Iceberg model.
• Chapter 3: This is MY City! – is dedicated to villains. It contains rules for creating Threats and information on how to handle them, as well as a Threat Profiles catalog with dozens of ready-to-play Threats. It also includes an extensive guide on Avatars and their organizations, along with four sample Avatar organizations, and a special section on creating and using special moves with templates and examples.
